The
Fox Valley Writing Project is dedicated to the improvement
of writing instruction and students' writing skills. The
Project has been training teachers in improving writing
instruction for over 25 years. These third annual Young
Writers' Camps are offered to allow students interested
in writing to exercise and improve their talents. There
are all kinds of summer camps for activities like basketball,
gymnastics, and volleyball. We believe there should be
camps for writers too. Come join us!
What?
The
Young Writer's Camps focus on developing writing skills,
sharing ideas, interacting with authors, and publishing
student writings. Each day's schedule includes writing
skills development, writing and revising work periods,
and time to share and present ideas. Published authors
will be available during some of the camp dates to speak
and mingle with camp writers. In addition, special workshops
and activities for stimulating and developing writing
skills are planned.
An
Anthology of students' writings will be published and
sent to each participant. In addition, campers have the
option of joining a Young Writers' Blog, an online writers'
community, that will run during the camp and beyond for
sharing and interacting with others enrolled in camps.
New this year, the camps are for students who are entering
sixth through tenth grades.
How?
The funding
for camps is partially provided by the registration fees.
In addition, funds have been contributed by local businesses
and foundations. The Fox Valley Writing project is also
supporting the camps with National Writing Project grants.
Each camp's dedicated writing instructors have participated
in the Fox Valley Writing project. To enroll, fill in
the registration
form, and send it, along with the registration fee,
to the listed address.
Where?
The
camps will be held at two different locations. One camp
is available at the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh.
Another camp will be held in Neenah at Horace Mann Middle
School. Each camp has similar schedules and activities
for young authors.
When?
Our 2006 camps
will run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for two weeks on
Mondays through Thursdays, August 7 - 10 and 14 -17.
