The
Fox Valley Writing Project is dedicated to the improvement
of writing instruction and students' writing skills. The
Project has been training teachers in improving writing
instruction for over 25 years. These sixth annual Young
Writers' Camps are offered to allow students interested
in writing to exercise and improve their talents. There
summer camps for activities like basketball,
gymnastics, and volleyball. We believe there should be
camps for writers too. Come join us!
What?
The
Young Writer's Camps focus on developing writing skills,
sharing ideas, interacting with authors, and publishing
student writings. Each day's schedule includes writing
skills development, writing and revising time,
and opportunities for sharing and conferencing.
Our 2008 camp features Victoria Houston, a Wisconsin mystery writer, as writer in residence. She will interact with young writers about her own and their writings. In addition, a focus on mystery writing will be included in camp activities and workshops. A Victoria Houston book is included with camp registration.
An
Anthology of students' writings is published and
sent to each participant. Campers have the
option of joining our Young Writers' Blog, an online writers'
community for
sharing and interacting with others enrolled in camps, which runs during camp and beyond .
Camps are for students entering sixth through tenth grades.
How?
Funding
for camps is partially provided by the registration fees.
In addition, funds are contributed by local businesses, schools,
and foundations.
Each camp's dedicated writing instructors have participated
in the Fox Valley Writing project. To enroll, fill in
the registration
form, and send it, along with the registration fee,
to the listed address.
Where?
The University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh campus and Horace Mann Middle School in Neenah will hold two week camp sessions. Both camps have similar schedules and activities
for young authors.
When?
Our 2008 camps
are held from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm Mondays through Thursdays for the two weeks of August 4 - 7 and 11 -14.
